Personal Qualities A Pilot Need To Do The Job Well
Have you ever thought, what being a pilot actually means.
A pilot is a person who operates the flying controls of an aircraft. The job encompasses numerous roles from planning the flight, to engaging and assuming different roles at different phases of the flight.
So, what is the real definition of a pilot and what are the skills and qualities they need?
The primary job of a pilot is to be able to get the aircraft from place A to place B. In order to do that safely and efficiently, pilots must be able to program and monitor the aircraft’s onboard navigation systems and should also be able to navigate themselves, if the systems fail.
Despite the automation, pilots still need a comprehensive knowledge of aircraft systems to be able to deal with problems that may occur and on occasions to be able to ’think outside the box’.
Modern aviation is all about computers and these days pilots are known as cockpit managers. Pilots today must understand a variety of computer systems that help them to Aviate navigate and communicate.
A pilot must be able to communicate well, not only in aviation terms but also on an interpersonal level.
They fly with different crew and a pilot must be able to establish a rapport with other flight crew and cabin crew.
A pilot’s primary concern is always the safety of the flight. But pilots take pride in ensuring their passengers receive best possible flight experience. Communicating the reasons behind a delayed flight, letting them know the weather at their destination or pointing out the opportunity to see a famous landmark as they fly past can all add to a passenger’s experience of a flight.
A captain has the ultimate responsibility for all the crew on board. Understanding their needs, and supporting them in their dealings with passengers is a vital part of the job. There could be occasions where the crew needs their support on a personal level.
Overall, being a pilot is a wonderful job.
But to fly a plane safely and efficiently, they need certain personal qualities which goes beyond flying a plane.
I went on a mission to uncover what really makes a pilot excel and guess what? I had some eye-opening chats with some of the most experienced pilots and literally, everyone said, being disciplined is super important. But there's a lot more to be successful in this profession.
And believe me, every aspiring pilot out there must listen to what they said.
Because this not just another podcast episode, it's the blueprint for your future in flying. It's a must-listen episode that could shape your career.
